If you like golf, music, food and drinking there is going to be a new hot spot for you in Albuquerque.On Friday, Albuquerque businessmen Daniel Chavez announced that he was going to open a new 3,200-seat concert venue next to the future home of Top Golf near I-25 and Montaño.Revel will have three restaurants, a sports bar, a dueling piano bar, a coffee shop and an auditorium – all under one roof.”We have not seen anything like this in Albuquerque and quite honestly anywhere in the country,” Chavez said. Chavez is investing $12 million of his own money to transform the former Sports Authority into the concert venue. He hopes to attract acts such as “Earth Wind and Fire, Chicago, (John) Mellencamp. A lot of the classics… Eddie Money – Those type of ’80s rock bands all the way to up to new hip hop rap,” he said. “Even local artists.”The venue can also be used for mixed martial arts and boxing events.”I looked at this building for years and wandered what it could be,” Chavez said. “The moment I saw Top Golf move next door, that was the moment when I said ‘This is it.'”Decades ago, Chavez started one of the nation’s largest concert staging companies in New Mexico. The Valley High School alum also opened a popular piano bar – Uptown Funk – a few years ago. Once Revel opens, it will employ up to 50 full-time and 200 part-time employees, Chavez said. Jobs will range from wait staff to stage hands to marketing and accounting executives.“I’ve been doing concerts in Albuquerque for over 30 years and I know that we are lacking a concert venue of this size. I want to make this a one-stop shop for patrons to enjoy themselves before and after a concert. Nothing like this has been done before so I’m excited to launch this unique entertainment venue in my hometown,” he said.Revel is scheduled to open its bars in November. The concert venue will be open next year.
