Education briefs for July 21


• Thane-Maiko Brown of Hilo, a graduate of Kamehameha Schools Hawaii majoring in rhetoric studies, received a bachelor of arts degrees from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash.

• Gabrielle L. Gleason of Hilo graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor of science in education degree from Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Ark. Gleason majored in K-6 STEM elementary education.

• Sabrina Pike of Kailua-Kona received a bachelor of arts degree from Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. An archaeology and creative writing major, Pike graduated with departmental honors in anthropology.

• Kalaiakea Blakemore of Volcano received a master of arts degree and Joshua-Michael Tomiyama of Kapaau received a master of science degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. Blakemore was an art major. Tomiyama majored in biostatistics.

• Anna Moon, a native of Kailua-Kona, was named to the 2020 spring semester dean’s list at Emerson College in Boston. Moon is majoring in writing, literature and publishing and is a member of the Class of 2021. Students must have a GPA for 3.7 or higher to be named to the dean’s list.

• Ashton Porter or Hilo received a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo.

• Jacob H. Young of Kapaau graduated from Colby College in Waterville, Maine, receiving a bachelor of arts degree. Young, who majored in science, technology and society and contemplative neuroscience (independent), attended Peak To Peak Charter School and is the son of Nancy Young of Kapaau and Richard Young of Boulder, Colo.

• Hadley Beach of Kailua-Kona, a senior cognitive neuroscience major, was named to the 2020 spring semester dean’s list at Harding University in Searcy, Ark. Students included on the dean’s list must be carrying 12 or more hours with a 3.65 or higher grade-point average and no incompletes.
