Chillicothe Police Department offering to help pay for home and business security camera installations
The Chillicothe Police Department is offering a new program called the Community Camera Partnership Reimbursement Program. In a news release, the department said they will reimburse qualifying property owners up to $200, but you have to apply and agree to their conditions first.
Part of those conditions include being on a Chillicothe PD register of residents and businesses with surveillance cameras. People on that list would only be contacted if a crime happened near their property. That’s when the Chillicothe Police would contact you and ask to look at your video to assist with an investigation. On the department’s website it states, “Your personal information will remain confidential except as required by law. If needed you would agree to provide a copy of the video file for further investigation and evidence.”
Their website also points out that video surveillance is one of the best ways to convict someone of a crime. In addition it says, “police are not always aware of who may have potentially vital video evidence.”
Applications to be a part of the program will open May 1 on the department’s website. The department has a $5,000 budget for the program. Homeowners or property owners can submit a maximum of two properties and the maximum reimbursement is $200.
