Co-owner Kait Gilcher said Friday that they closed Heart Mercantile at 438 E. Fifth St. and beck + call boutique at 504 E. Fifth St. on Thursday as a precaution in case a sick worker was infected with the coronavirus.

On Friday, the test confirmed it was COVID-19, owners announced on their Facebook page.

“Heart & beck + call will remain closed until July 16th to allow for the appropriate amount of time to quarantine, test all of our employees, and to disinfect everything a million times per the CDC guidelines,” the post read. “We will continue to delay online orders and shipping requests until we are back at the shop.”

Gilcher said 13 employees between Heart Mercantile and beck + call are affected by the closure, and that they are working on getting all staff tested.

A Thursday Facebook post also stated that some staff are immunocompromised or have close relationships with older adults in their families who would be more vulnerable to the coronavirus.
